History

In the early-1980's, Nancy Regan hosted a PBS documentary called, "The Chemical People" which encouraged communities to organize grass roots efforts to combat drug use in the United States.  Irvine was among many communities nation wide that did just that.

In 1987, the Irvine Chemical People received their 501-C 3 status.  In 1990, the group changed the name of the organization to Irvine Community Drug Prevention (ICDP.)

As the first collaborative effort of city, police, school district and community representatives, ICDP helped create an  environment where agencies worked together and shared resources in order to better serve the community.

In the mid-1990's, IUSD, the City of Irvine, Irvine Police Department, ICDP and several other agency partners created the Irvine Prevention Coalition in order to expand these efforts to include a variety of agency, faith based organizations, businesses, community leaders and other service providers to address the ever changing needs of our community.
